Morocco’s head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, signed this Wednesday, an official note for the launch of the Awrach program, in a move to create 250,000 direct jobs in temporary construction sites in the current and the next year.

A budget of MAD 2.25 billion will be allocated to this program for this year, part of the government’s strategy for 2021-2026.

The Awrach program primarily focuses on temporary public worksites, which will be implemented during this year.

For temporary public worksites, the Awrach program will benefit the new employees to develop new skills with a monthly income greater than or equal to the minimum wage (SMIG), social coverage, including family allowances.

By the end of the project, the employee will obtain a document of completion from the employer to increase his chances of reintegration into the labor market, in similar economic activities.

The government will also cover expenses of the employer’s share, revenues, and insurance costs (in the case of work accidents).

The second part of the program aims to support worksites for sustainable integration at the national level.

For this sustainable integration support project, the Awrach program facilitates the integration of young people over a period of at least 24 months with salaries at least equal to the minimum wage, social coverage, including family allowances, in accordance with the laws and regulations, and the acquisition of professional experience.

Akhannouch’s government will also grant operators an incentive subsidy of MAD 1,500 per month for a period of 18 months.

This program will benefit nearly 250,000 people over two years through partnerships with associations, cooperatives, and companies while providing applications and employment contracts, both in the public and private sectors.

The Awrach program is intended to meet the needs of citizens in terms of infrastructure, including the construction of roads, restoration of monuments and public facilities, afforestation, maintenance of green spaces, the fight against desertification and silting, digitization of archives, cultural and sporting activities, as well as occasional educational support.

The aim of this program is to support and integrate young people into the labor market, especially with the circumstances related to the COVID-19.
