A report from the council of scientific research (INE-CSEFRS) revealed that 69.4% of higher education graduates in Morocco were able to access the job market after four years of graduation.
The survey of the research involved 9,899 graduates of the 2014 promotion and those graduates were interviewed in 2018, saying the percentage changes according to gender, type of diploma, and field of study.
The report showed that 13.3% of sruveyed graduates were looking for job opportunities (unemployed), 9.4% were resuming or continuing their studies, and 7.9% were both inactive in the job market and not studying or training.
In terms of gender, the rate of employment among men is higher (89.0%) than women (76%).
The employment rate is considered high among graduates of non-university institutions by 93.9%, followed by graduates from private higher education by 79.1%, university graduates by 68.1%, and vocational training institutions (two-year diploma) by 66%.
16.2% of graduates in 2014 stated that they were unemployed for four years after finishing their studies, which represents double the unemployment rate for the entire population in the country.
As for the job market, 64.8% of graduates accessed the formal private sector, followed by 33.1% of graduates integrated the public sector, including public and semi-public companies, 2.3% of graduates were self-employed, and 1.5% of graduates were part of the informal private sector.
The report showed that small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are the most recruiting, as 57.6% worked for small companies (less than 50 employees), and 21.4% were part of medium companies (50 to 199 employees).
As part of the 2022 Finance bill, Akhannouch’s government seeks to create new 250,000 job opportunities, with an allocated budget of MAD2.25 billion.
