The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized on Wednesday Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster shots as well as mix-and-match anti-COVID-19 products.
In a video shared by FDA, it is said that Americans could choose a booster different from their original shots in order to get additional protection against COVID-19.
Data indicated that mixing and matching anti-COVID-19 products is safe, while FDA officials are still unclear of which combination of shots is the best.
FDA has already authorized the Pfizer booster vaccine, at least six months after the first round of shots to increase protection for old people aged 65 and above, those who risk of severe disease, and most recently, FDA suggested lowering the age group to 40, based on Israel’s data.
According to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Moderna vaccine would better protect against the serious effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in the long term, as its antibodies last for a long time, followed by Pfizer, and then Johnson & Johnson whose efficiency decreases over time.
A recent study released by the National Institutes of Health showed people who received Johnson & Johnson vaccine as a first shot had a stronger immune response when boosted with other anti-COVID-19 products, including Pfizer and Moderna
