Tunisia’s breaking tennis star Ons Jabeur became the first Arab player, male or female, to reach the top 10 in the global ranking.

On Thursday, Jabeur defeated Estonia’s Anett Kontaveit 7-5, 6-3, to reach the semifinals at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, which guarantees her a spot in the top 10 in singles when the rankings are updated Monday.

“When I spoke at the end of last season, I said I wanted to be in the top 10,” Jabeur said on court after Thursday’s win against Kontaveit.

Jabeur was already a trail blazer in her own right.

She held her first tennis racket at the age of three and went on to participate in Grand Slams.

She previously made history by becoming the first Arab woman to win a WTA Tour title and make it to the quarterfinals in a grand slam event.

“Top 10 I know is the beginning,” Jabeur said in a statement. “I know I deserve this place from a long time since I was playing well. But I want to prove that I deserve to be here, I deserve to be one of the Top 10 players”.
