The Ministry of National Education officially announced the reopening of university dormitories starting Monday, October 11.

As the reopening will be gradual, old residents will be prioritized before dormitories begin receiving new students, the ministry said.

“The Ministry of National Education officially called on the Ministry of Health to bring out a new health protocol, pointing out a successful academic year requires the reopening of university dormitories,” Minister of National Education Said Amzazi told Hespress in a statement.

Certain restrictive measures related to the educational system will also be lifted, such as the reopening of libraries, as Morocco’s Covid-19 cases have been decreasing for the seventh consecutive week, the ministry of health said, representing a drop of 36 percent.

Additionally, students will be able to attend their classes in person this academic year, thanks to the uptake in Morocco’s vaccine rollout.

Researchers from the Mohammed V University of Rabat conducted a survey titled “Remote education in Morocco: student perceptions during the COVID-19 lockdown period,” targeting 3,300 students to detect their perceptions on several aspects of online school.

The researchers found that only 42.77% of students said they were satisfied, while 50.42% of students prefer in-person studies and 42% are for mixed education, remote and face-to-face.

Over 65% of students believe that remote education cannot replace face-to-face education, the survey found.
