Moroccan police and customs officers seized 971 kilograms of cocaine at Tanger Med port on Tuesday, November 3, intercepting a shipment originating in Brazil and bound for West Africa, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The drugs were discovered during a joint border inspection operation inside a refrigerated shipping container aboard a vessel flying the flag of a Latin American country.

Preliminary investigations established that the container had departed from a Brazilian port and was destined for a port in West Africa.

The Tangier judicial police have opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to establish the circumstances surrounding the shipment and identify those involved.

Morocco’s Interpol National Central Bureau in Rabat has also been tasked with coordinating international investigations to trace the criminal network behind the trafficking operation.
