The Front of Democratic Forces (FFD), the Party of Equity (PE), the Party of New Democrats (PND), and the Party of Unity and Democracy (PUD) have announced the formation of a joint parliamentary caucus in Morocco’s House of Representatives, following results of the most recent legislative elections.
In a joint press release, the parties announced that this initiative seeks to breathe new life into parliamentary practice and make parliamentary action a source of proposals and a catalyst for significant new legislative initiatives.
It also aims to mobilize oversight mechanisms to thoroughly evaluate public policies and translate citizens’ pressing concerns into actionable policies and work strategies, the parties emphasized, committing to work according to a national approach prioritizing the best interests of the nation.
The four parties have also expressed their commitment to promoting ethical and citizen-centered parliamentary practices that contribute to improving the legislative decision-making process.
In this regard, Chakir Achahbar, president of the Party of Equity, stated that his party’s decision to join this parliamentary group reflects its conviction that greater effectiveness in parliamentary action requires new and innovative approaches to improve performance at the House of Representatives.
In a statement to MAP, he affirmed that creating this caucus also aims to bolster citizens’ oversight of democratic practices within institutions, foremost among them Parliament.
Regarding the group’s legislative and oversight priorities, Achahbar assured that the caucus will shed light on various issues concerning the oversight of government actions or the institutions under its purview, expressing the ambition of the group’s members to help meet all citizens’ aspirations.
The announced parliamentary caucus consists of six members of parliament, based on the results of the September 23 legislative elections: the FFD and the PE (two seats each), and one seat each for the PND and the PUD.
