Italian forensic experts met on Monday to begin reviewing autopsy evidence in the investigation into the death of Moroccan national Abderrahim Fakir during a police intervention in Bologna, Il Resto del Carlino reported.
The newspaper also published a frame from an officer’s body camera showing blood behind Fakir’s head as he lay on the ground. Gabriele Bordoni, a lawyer for the officers, said Fakir injured himself against the asphalt while resisting. Fabio Anselmo, representing Fakir’s family, disputed that account.
ANSA reported that preliminary autopsy findings showed fresh blood in Fakir’s lungs and signs of compression, but did not establish the cause of death. Full toxicology and tissue examinations are pending.
