Five Moroccan designers and architects have been named among the finalists for the Arab World Institute’s 2026 Design Award, with projects spanning furniture, textiles, architecture and urban heritage.

Othmane Bengebara is shortlisted in the emerging talent category for “Irtah!”, a contemporary reinterpretation of low seating combining craftsmanship, textile design and artificial intelligence.

Imane Mellah is competing for the contemporary craftsmanship award with “Bab”, a textile work inspired by Moroccan medina doors and Amazigh weaving traditions.

Casablanca-based 99+ X Architects, founded by Alaa Halifi and El Yazid Boudraa, is nominated for a project that transforms demolition rubble into materials preserving the city’s architectural memory.

Architect Salima Naji is a grand prize finalist for Tiznit’s earthen-built heritage interpretation centre.

The winners will be announced at the institute in Paris on September 9 during Paris Design Week.
