Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an orange level weather alert warning of a heatwave expected to push temperatures as high as 44 degrees Celsius in several southern and southeastern provinces next week.
According to the agency’s latest bulletin, temperatures ranging between 41C and 44C are forecast from Monday, June 8, through Wednesday, June 10, in Errachidia, Zagora, Tata, Assa Zag, Es Semara, Boujdour, Aousserd and Oued Ed Dahab.
The warning comes as Morocco enters the early summer period following several weeks of above average temperatures across parts of the country.
Meteorological authorities urged residents to take precautions during the hottest hours of the day, particularly vulnerable groups including children, older adults and people with chronic illnesses.
Officials recommended avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during peak afternoon temperatures.
Heatwaves have become increasingly frequent across Morocco in recent years, with climate experts linking rising temperatures and longer periods of extreme heat to broader climate change trends affecting North Africa and the Mediterranean basin.
