Morocco’s weather service issued an orange-level alert Friday for thunderstorms, hail, high temperatures and strong winds affecting several provinces through Sunday.
Thunderstorms bringing 15 to 25 millimeters of rain, hail and strong wind gusts are forecast Friday in Tinghir, Errachidia, Midelt and Ouarzazate between noon and 11 p.m., the General Directorate of Meteorology said.
On Saturday, heavier rainfall of 30 to 40 millimeters is expected in Figuig, Jerada, Errachidia, Midelt, Boulemane and Tinghir between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 38 to 40 C in Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane and Khemisset on Saturday and Sunday.
Tangier-Assilah and Fahs-Anjra are meanwhile expected to see wind gusts of 75 to 85 kilometers per hour over the weekend.
The weather service said unstable conditions could continue into next week, particularly across the Atlas, southeast and eastern Morocco.
