Moroccan authorities are investigating whether a body discovered Sunday near the Atlantic coast outside El Jadida belongs to a man who disappeared after a vehicle plunged into the ocean late last month, local Hespress AR sources said.
According to the sources, a fisherman discovered the body near rocky cliffs close to the site where a utility vehicle carrying a family fell into the sea near Jorf Lasfar during a recreational outing in the final week of April.
The fisherman reportedly became suspicious after noticing a strong odor coming from the area before finding a body in an advanced state of decomposition. He then alerted local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie and civil protection services.
Emergency teams recovered the body and transferred it for forensic examination to determine whether it belongs to the missing man involved in the accident.
The public prosecutor’s office in El Jadida ordered investigators to reopen the preliminary inquiry launched following the crash until the identity of the deceased is formally confirmed.
Authorities previously recovered the bodies of the man’s wife and daughter during the first two days after the accident, which officials described as accidental after the vehicle reportedly fell from a cliff into the Atlantic Ocean near Jorf Lasfar.
