The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Morocco movement has warned against the petition proposing to grant Moroccan citizenship to the children and grandchildren of Moroccan Jews holding Israeli nationality.
The movement says expanding citizenship to this group poses a danger because these individuals have integrated into the Zionist settlement project and served within the occupation army and its security institutions.
BDS Morocco said that the problem with the petition has no religious or cultural dimension, and it does not concern Moroccan Jews as a part of Morocco’s history and cultural diversity. Instead, the issue rests entirely on the fact that these individuals serve the Zionist project.
The movement said that since the 1960s, large segments of this population have integrated into a state based on occupation, displacement, settlement, and racism. BDS Morocco said proponents are now attempting to present these individuals as “Moroccans of the world” to justify their legal reintegration, ignoring their responsibility within an apartheid system committing genocide.
The movement said the most dangerous aspect is that the petition does not require applicants to give up their Israeli citizenship, practically accepting a dual allegiance between Morocco and the state of occupation. It warned that this opens the door to a dangerous political and security penetration aimed at changing the consciousness and structure of society.
Furthermore, BDS Morocco rejected the promotion of the so-called “anti-Semitism law,” which seeks to confuse anti-Semitism with the rejection of Zionism and normalization to criminalize the popular Moroccan movement.
The statement noted that Moroccan law allows for the dropping or withdrawal of citizenship from any Moroccan working inside a foreign army. The movement questioned why there is talk of expanding naturalization for individuals who served in an army committing war crimes instead of opening a debate on legal accountability.
BDS Morocco concluded by calling on all political, human rights, and union bodies to reject all initiatives seeking to legitimize legal and political integration with the Zionist entity and to confront any attempts to bleach war crimes within the Moroccan space.
