Moroccan police have recovered a missing taxi in Casablanca after its driver was found dead earlier in the day in the Sidi Maârouf area, in a case that has prompted renewed calls for stronger protections for transport workers.
Security services located the vehicle in the Hay Al Mostaqbal neighborhood in Ain Chock following an intensive search that included reviewing street surveillance footage to track its movements.
The taxi has been seized as part of an ongoing investigation to identify those responsible and determine the circumstances of the murder.
The case has sparked concern among taxi professionals in Morocco’s largest city. “This incident highlights the lack of basic safety conditions for drivers,” said Samir Frabi of the Democratic Transport Union, calling for urgent measures.
Union representatives urged authorities to install onboard cameras and GPS tracking systems linked to security services to improve response times.
Officials have not yet disclosed details on suspects or motives as the investigation continues.
