Morocco’s head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, stressed on Wednesday before parliament that over the past five years, the government’s work was not a dry administrative management of key sectors but followed a broader vision to align public decision-making with citizens’ expectations.

Presenting the overall performance of his government’s term during a joint parliamentary session, Akhannouch said the legislative and regulatory momentum achieved was not accidental but driven by strong political will, resulting in the adoption of more than 847 legal and regulatory texts since the start of the mandate.

This includes over 110 laws and 609 implementing decrees, which, according to the head of the government, is a “broad restructuring of the legal framework affecting citizens’ daily lives, along with greater openness to parliamentary legislative initiatives.”

Akhannouch said the government strengthened this participatory dimension with all components representing the country by holding intensive meetings to review 437 bill proposals, an increase of 146 compared to the previous term.

He added that this stems from the belief that “the quality of public policies stems from the quality of their laws,” while also consolidating a model of balance of powers and maturity in the government and parliamentary experience.

The head of government also praised the royal leadership, saying it has turned successive challenges into opportunities and established a renewed development model that balances economic strength with the needs of social justice.

King Mohammed VI’s vision, he said, is based on a balance between economic performance and social fairness, placing people at the center of reforms in a way that protects citizens’ dignity and strengthens their role within a state of law and institutions.

Akhannouch said Morocco’s growing credibility and international trust are reinforced by a series of diplomatic gains in support of the country’s national cause, through increasing backing for the autonomy initiative, which he said is now seen by the international community and major powers as the only serious, realistic, and viable solution to the dispute over the southern provinces

Over the past 26 years under King Mohammed VI, the issue has seen major shifts, with growing international support for Morocco’s proposal, including from the United States, France, and the United Kingdom, as well as many Arab and African states.
