Morocco warns against weight-loss supplements containing Garcinia Cambogia
Monday 6 April 2026 - 17:22

Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products has warned against the use of certain dietary supplements marketed for weight loss, particularly those containing Garcinia cambogia, citing potential health risks.

In a public notice, the agency urged consumers to exercise caution and consult healthcare professionals before using such products, as they may cause adverse health effects.

The warning is part of the agency’s mandate to protect public health and ensure the safety of health products. It follows scientific data and international reports indicating that consumption of these supplements may be linked to serious side effects.

Reported adverse effects include liver dysfunction, cardiovascular-related symptoms, psychological disorders, and gastrointestinal issues, according to the agency. The products may also interact with certain medications, potentially reducing their effectiveness or increasing the risk of complications.

The agency recommended avoiding supplements containing Garcinia cambogia and seeking medical advice before taking any weight-loss product, particularly for individuals with chronic conditions or those already on medication.

It also stressed the importance of reporting any side effects linked to dietary supplements to strengthen pharmacovigilance systems and ensure safer use. Reports can be submitted to the National Pharmacovigilance Center through the agency’s official website.
