A new 2025 ranking by The African Exponent has placed Casablanca, Marrakesh and Agadir among Africa’s leading cities for bus rapid transit (BRT) systems, highlighting Morocco’s growing investment in high capacity urban mobility.

The report said Morocco stands out in North Africa for deploying multiple BRT networks in major urban centers, reflecting a strategic government push toward modern and efficient public transport.

Casablanca’s “Busway,” launched in March last year, was cited as one of the continent’s largest and most technologically advanced systems, while Marrakesh’s BRT, operating since 2017, and Agadir’s “Trambus” complement national efforts to ease congestion and improve passenger experience.

According to the platform, Morocco’s BRT systems benefit from dedicated lanes, modern fleets and real time GPS tracking, supporting reliability, scalability and broader goals of sustainable urban development.
