Morocco opened their Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2–0 win over Comoros on Sunday at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, as goals from Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi secured a controlled start for the host nation.
Backed by a loud home crowd despite steady rain, Morocco set the tempo early and dominated possession, pressing high and pinning Comoros deep in their own half. The hosts were handed an early opportunity when Diaz was fouled in the penalty area after 10 minutes, but Sofiane Rahimi’s spot kick was saved by the Comorian goalkeeper.
Morocco continued to push but went into halftime scoreless, frustrated by a compact Comoros defense and a lack of precision in the final pass. Captain Romain Saiss was forced off injured before the break, adding a brief moment of concern for the hosts.
The breakthrough came 10 minutes after the restart. Noussair Mazraoui beat his marker on the right and delivered a low cross that Diaz finished from close range to give Morocco a deserved lead.
Comoros briefly threatened on the counter, but goalkeeper Yassine Bounou preserved the advantage before Morocco sealed the result in the 74th minute. Substitute El Kaabi doubled the lead with an acrobatic finish from a cross by Anass Salah-Eddine.
Morocco controlled the closing stages to secure three points in their opening Group A match.
