The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) began hearing the dispute between Morocco, Senegal and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, with representatives of the parties appearing through their lawyers.
CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb said the hearing was proceeding according to a schedule agreed in advance by the parties’ legal teams, with arguments expected to continue through the afternoon.
The case is being heard by a three-member arbitration panel chaired by French professor Gérald Simon, with Italian professor Luigi Fumagalli and German professor Ulrich Haas.
The hearing concerns an appeal by the Senegalese Football Federation against a CAF decision that awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title following Senegal’s initial 1-0 victory in the final.
The proceedings are being held behind closed doors, as none of the parties requested a public hearing. Representatives of the Senegalese and Moroccan football federations are attending in person, while CAF is represented by its legal advisers.
Reeb said CAS aims to issue a ruling as soon as possible after the hearing but ruled out a decision on Thursday or Friday.
He said the final award could take several days or weeks, depending on how long the arbitration panel needs to examine the case and reach its decision.
CAS had previously confirmed that the panel would begin deliberations after the hearing and that no decision would be issued on the day of the hearing.
