Moroccan Government approves 5% minimum wage increase effective 2026
Thursday 18 December 2025 - 16:10

Morocco’s government on Thursday approved a decree raising the country’s legal minimum wage by 5% in both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, as part of the second phase of increases agreed under a social pact signed in April 2024.

According to information from the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, the increase will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026, for non-agricultural activities and on April 1, 2026, for agricultural activities.

Under the decree, the minimum wage for non-agricultural workers (SMIG) will rise to 17.92 dirhams per hour starting in January 2026. The minimum wage for agricultural workers (SMAG) will increase to 97.44 dirhams per day starting in April 2026.

The latest adjustment brings the total increase in the legal minimum wage between 2021 and 2026 to 20% in non-agricultural sectors, equivalent to an additional 3.11 dirhams per hour, or about 594 dirhams in gross monthly pay. In agriculture, cumulative increases over the same period will reach 25%, representing an additional 20.74 dirhams per day, or roughly 539 dirhams per month.

The wage hikes stem from successive social agreements between the government, employers’ organizations, including the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises and the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the country’s most representative labor unions.

An earlier tripartite agreement signed in April 2022 set increases of 10% for non-agricultural wages and 15% for agricultural wages, implemented in phases between 2022 and 2023. A subsequent agreement reached in April 2024 introduced an additional 10% increase for both sectors, to be applied in two stages.

The first phase took effect in January and April 2025, while the decree approved Thursday implements the second and final phase of that agreement.
