Widespread rainfall across northern Morocco over the weekend improved conditions for the current agricultural season and bolstered farmer confidence in key farming areas, growers and sector specialists said.
Precipitation was reported in Larache, Ksar El Kebir, Asilah, Tangier, Chefchaouen and Tetouan, bringing relief after successive drought years that strained production and raised costs for feed and irrigation.
Farmer Abdel Salam Banshkor from Larache said the rains came in “significant quantities” at a critical moment for autumn crops, allowing planting to accelerate and reducing dependence on purchased fodder. He said fields absorbed the rainfall well, supporting early growth for cereals and seasonal crops.
Agriculture consultant Riad Ouhatita said the rainfall signals a “strong start” to the season and is likely to encourage expanded planting compared with previous years. He urged farmers to use region-appropriate seed varieties to maximize yields.
Ouhatita added that the precipitation should improve pasture conditions for livestock, ease pressure on water tables and replenish surface storage, strengthening short-term resilience in farming zones affected by drought.
