Police in Fez have arrested 17 people, including four public employees, on suspicion of involvement in embezzlement, theft, forgery, and breach of trust, authorities said Tuesday.
The arrests were made by the Regional Judicial Police Brigade, based on intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), according to security sources.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are linked to a criminal network specializing in the theft of vehicles, as well as gasoline and electric motorcycles and electronic devices. The stolen items had previously been impounded in the municipal lot in Oujda, where they were reportedly tampered with, dismantled, and later sold in scrap markets.
Police detained the head of the municipal impound lot and three employees from the same facility. Officers also seized 10 vehicles, 17 motorcycles, 38 dismantled car frames, and a collection of spare parts believed to have been stolen.
Twelve of the suspects were placed in police custody pending further investigation, while the others remain under judicial supervision. Prosecutors have ordered an ongoing probe to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal activities and identify any additional parties involved.
