Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi is expected to be out of action for six to eight weeks after suffering a serious ankle injury during Paris Saint-Germain’s 2–1 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, according to French and Spanish media reports.
French outlet RMC Sport reported that the right-back will miss several weeks of competition and is unlikely to feature again before the end of 2025, dealing a major blow to both PSG and Morocco ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.
While initial fears of a fracture were ruled out, medical tests confirmed that Hakimi sustained a severe sprain to his left ankle with damage to the internal ligaments, the report said. Early estimates suggest a recovery period of six to eight weeks.
The injury, described as a strong twist in the joint, could also jeopardize Hakimi’s participation in the early matches of the upcoming AFCON, set to take place in Morocco from December 21 to January 18. His involvement in the tournament will depend on his recovery progress in the coming weeks.
Spanish newspaper Marca also reported that Hakimi suffered a ligament tear in his left ankle, adding that the player will not require surgery but will still face a lengthy rehabilitation process estimated at around two months.
Hakimi sustained the injury following a heavy tackle by Luis Díaz during the first half of Tuesday’s match at Parc des Princes. The Colombian winger was later sent off after a VAR review, while Hakimi left the pitch in tears before being substituted by Senny Mayulu.
The 26-year-old defender was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches, with his left ankle secured in a protective medical boot.
The setback comes just weeks before Morocco’s AFCON campaign, where Hakimi was expected to play a key role as one of the Atlas Lions’ standout players.
