Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah Alaoui outlines the government’s plans to allocate over MAD 140 billion to the health and education sectors in 2026. This represents an increase of MAD 21 billion compared to 2025, with 27,000 new jobs planned in these sectors.

Speaking to Parliament on Monday while presenting the 2026 Finance Bill, she said the health sector will receive MAD 42.4 billion, nearly 10 billion more than last year, with 8,000 new positions, 1,500 more than in 2025.

The Minister emphasized that the government will continue improving the national healthcare system by speeding up hospital upgrades and expanding capacity.

This includes finishing and equipping the Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat and opening new university hospitals in Beni Mellal, Guelmim, and Errachidia by 2026.

She added that around 1,600 health centers will be renovated and modernized over the next three years at a cost of about MAD 6.9 billion, following the first phase that upgraded 1,400 centers for MAD 6.4 billion.

Fettah Alaoui stressed that the government will also continue strengthening the Moroccan Agency for Medicines and Health Products and the Moroccan Blood and Derivatives Agency, as well as setting up regional health clusters to enhance sector governance.

For the education sector, the 2026 Finance Bill allocates MAD 97.1 billion, which is an 11.5 billion increase over 2025, while creating 19,344 new positions.

The Minister said that the government will expand early childhood education in 2026 by creating around 4,800 new classrooms, bringing the total to nearly 40,000 and benefiting over one million children in the 2026–2027 school year.

It will also continue improving the quality of education by expanding the Pioneering Schools program to cover 6,626 primary schools and 1,286 secondary schools in 2026–2027, with more expansions planned for 2027–2028.

Also, 170 new educational institutions will be opened, 193 schools will be built in 2026, and support services like student housing, school meals, and transportation for 730,000 students will be enhanced.

For higher education, the Minister said that MAD 17.3 billion will be invested in 2026 to make Moroccan universities more attractive and better link research with national priorities and the job market.

Vocational training is also expanding, Fettah Alaoui stressed, with 27 new institutes, bringing the total to 798, alongside 1,596 licensed private institutions.

She also highlighted that three new Skills and Professions Cities are opening in Dakhla–Oued Ed-Dahab, Marrakech–Asfi, and Guelmim–Oued Noun, bringing the total to 10, with work on the remaining two cities still underway.
