Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Syria and Gaza during an address to the United Nations General Assembly, calling for international support to preserve Syria’s unity.
“The Israeli regime is attempting to divide Syria, but these plans will not succeed,” Sheikh Tamim said. He emphasized that rebuilding Syrian state institutions and ensuring equal citizenship for all are critical priorities, urging the international community to seize the opportunity to support Syria.
The Emir also denounced an Israeli attack on Doha last week targeting a residence hosting a Hamas negotiating delegation, which killed six people, including a Qatari.
He called the strike “a blatant violation of international norms and an act of state terrorism,” and criticized Israel for using negotiations as a pretext while obstructing the release of hostages.
Sheikh Tamim reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to mediating conflicts peacefully, highlighting successes in Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan, and across Africa. He also accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of using the war to expand settlements, block peace efforts, and impose Israeli influence across the Arab region.
“Israel wants to impose its will on its Arab neighbors, labeling dissenters as terrorists or anti-Semitic,” the Emir said, stressing that Qatar remains committed to international law and peaceful conflict resolution.
