Morocco’s Marrakech Air Show has become a major international platform for the aerospace and defense industries, bringing together governments and companies to showcase new technologies and develop strategic partnerships, Minister Delegate for National Defense Administration Abdellatif Loudiyi said Wednesday.
Speaking at the opening of the eighth edition of the air show, Loudiyi said the event had become an important meeting point for Moroccan and international industry players and a platform for investment, technology exchange and cooperation.
He said Morocco’s aerospace sector had evolved significantly, moving from basic assembly toward manufacturing and advanced engineering.
Aerospace and related technologies have also become an important driver of Morocco’s industrial development, Loudiyi said, citing efforts to position the country as a global hub for aircraft manufacturing and maintenance and to integrate Moroccan companies into global supply chains.
The minister also highlighted Morocco’s efforts to develop a domestic defense industry, including legislation regulating the sector and measures aimed at attracting investment and technology transfers.
He said Morocco was seeking to attract foreign investment and localize military technologies as part of its strategy to develop national defense manufacturing capabilities.
Loudiyi said the country’s geographic position between Europe, Africa and the Arab world, along with its Atlantic access and what he described as a stable business and security environment, could strengthen its appeal to defense-industry investors.
He also cited King Mohammed VI’s support for developing a national defense industrial and technological base, saying the government sees the sector as a means of strengthening defense sovereignty and creating economic opportunities.
Morocco ultimately aims to move from relying primarily on imported defense capabilities toward building greater domestic capacity and strengthening its position in the defense industry, Loudiyi said.
The Marrakech Air Show brings together government officials, armed forces and aerospace and defense companies from Morocco and abroad.
