Police officer dies after stabbing by mentally disturbed man in Immouzer

A police officer was fatally attacked with a bladed weapon on Thursday in the city of Immouzer.

The officer, who was directing traffic at a roundabout, was the victim of an unprovoked assault by a 63-year-old man who showed signs of mental disorder.

The suspect, described as being in an abnormal state, surprised the officer and carried out the attack “without apparent reason,” according to initial investigation details. The officer died from his serious injuries on his way to the hospital.

Police responded immediately, arresting the suspect at the scene and seizing the knife used in the attack. Information available at this stage of the investigation suggests the suspect lived as a homeless person and had a history of psychiatric hospitalizations, with his last institutionalization occurring in December 2024.

Recognizing the officer as a “martyr of duty,” the Director General of National Security issued an order for his exceptional promotion to the rank of officer. The Director also instructed the Mohammed VI Foundation for Social Works and other central services to handle the officer’s funeral and provide all necessary support to his family. Meanwhile, a judicial investigation is underway to uncover all the circumstances and motives behind the crime.
