A local councilor in the city of Azemmour has been arrested on suspicion of accepting a bribe. The arrest was made following a direct complaint from a citizen to Morocco’s anti-corruption Green Line hotline.

The Judicial Police of the El Jadida security directorate, acting on instructions from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, set up a sting operation in coordination with the complainant. The councilor was arrested red-handed while receiving a sum of 3,000 dirhams that was allegedly intended to facilitate an administrative matter for the citizen.

Following the arrest, the suspect was taken to the police station in El Jadida for questioning as part of a preliminary investigation. A legal decision regarding the case is pending.
