Morocco has officially launched the second phase of construction for the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane, a massive sports venue expected to host key matches during the 2030 FIFA World Cup, co-organized with Spain and Portugal.
The National Agency for Public Facilities (ANEP), through its sports infrastructure division, issued a public call for bids from Moroccan and international firms to carry out major structural works. The tender covers concrete structures, waterproofing, steel framing, flooring, suspended ceilings, carpentry, and painting.
The estimated value of the contract is 3.2 billion dirhams (approximately $320 million), and the deadline for submissions is June 10 at 10 a.m. local time. The tender follows the completion of excavation works, part of the first phase of the project awarded to construction firm SGTM for 356 million dirhams.
Once completed, the Hassan II Stadium is expected to seat more than 115,000 spectators, making it one of the largest stadiums in the world and significantly boosting Morocco’s sports infrastructure.
According to project documents, construction is expected to last 30 months from the date of the official work order, with a projected completion by December 2027. This timeline aligns with the target set by Fouzi Lekjaa, head of the Moroccan Football Federation and the national World Cup committee.
The project is managed by ANEP on behalf of SONARGES, Morocco’s national stadium agency. International companies bidding for the contract must demonstrate experience in two prior major projects within the past decade: a stadium with at least 40,000 seats and another large-scale facility valued at no less than 6 billion dirhams, such as an airport, hospital, or commercial complex.
The stadium, designed by a prominent British firm awarded the contract in March 2024, will occupy a 100-hectare site in the Casablanca-Settat region. Its design features a vast white tent-like roof inspired by Morocco’s seasonal festival culture. The complex will also include a “green sports village,” entertainment zones, and be connected to major highways and public transportation networks.
