The European Union’s Ambassador to Morocco, Patricia Llombart Cussac, visited El Haouz Wednesday to reaffirm EU solidarity in the aftermath of the devastating September 2023 earthquake.
During the visit, Llombart met with the Governor of El Haouz and visited Achbarou village to meet women from a carpet-weaving cooperative benefiting from an EU-supported literacy program run by the High Atlas Foundation.
She also traveled to Tinmel to observe traditional rebuilding techniques supported by local NGOs and Spain’s development agency, AECID.
A stop was made at the damaged 12th-century Tinmel Mosque, now undergoing restoration planning with Italian support.
The EU has pledged 2.4 billion dirhams in aid, alongside a €1 billion EU-backed loan from the European Investment Bank for infrastructure recovery, including schools, hospitals, and roads.
