A Belarusian pilot suspended by Royal Air Maroc after posting the flag of the Polisario Front on his Instagram account claimed he believed it was the Palestinian flag.
Maxim, a trainee pilot with the airline, sparked controversy after sharing the separatist flag on social media.
Following the incident, the airline suspended Maxim, pending a final decision on his employment.
It was also revealed that Maxim blocked colleagues who attempted to contact him for clarification, fueling suspicions regarding his intentions.
In an apology sent to Hespress EN, Maxim said, “I want to offer my sincere apologies to anyone I may have offended with my Instagram post. I shared a flag, genuinely believing it represented Palestine, but I made a huge mistake. It turns out it wasn’t the right flag, and I deeply regret this misunderstanding.”
He explained that he had developed a habit of posting flags from countries he visited, but did not fully understand their significance.
“I never intended to offend anyone, and I completely understand why this could have been upsetting. It’s an error I should have avoided, and I take full responsibility for it,” he added.
“Thanks to Royal Air Maroc, I’ve been lucky enough to explore several amazing destinations, but my absolute favorite is Dakhla, the pearl of the Moroccan Sahara. With its azure blue lagoon and radiant sunshine, it’s a true paradise—especially for a guy from the far North like me!”
