Traffic at the Guerguerat border crossing between Morocco and Mauritania is continuing normally, despite reports claiming that movement had been suspended following a decision to halt exports of certain agricultural and food products to African markets, informed sources in the area told Hespress AR.
The sources said the restrictions apply only to trucks carrying agricultural and food products covered by the export suspension, while other commercial vehicles and passengers traveling in both directions continue to cross without disruption.
They added that several trucks carrying restricted products had been turned back to their points of departure or redirected to destinations inside Morocco, in line with the instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
Other trucks transporting goods not covered by the restrictions continue to cross as usual, the sources said, adding that passenger movement in both directions also remains unaffected under the supervision of the competent authorities.
The clarification comes after the ministry responsible for the measure announced restrictions on exports of several products to African markets. The list includes vegetables, fruit, processed food products and certain varieties of fresh and frozen fish.
The measure is intended to prioritize domestic supply and ensure the availability of essential goods on the national market.
