A group of Moroccan hackers called Moroccan Ghosts has hacked the archive of the “Sahara Press Service,” linked to the Polisario Front.
The hackers shared a video on their X account showing the hacked archive page with a photo of Moroccan Sahrawi citizens holding the Moroccan flag and the phrase: “God, Homeland, King… The Sahara is Moroccan, and Morocco is a kingdom.”
The Moroccan Ghosts said they deleted all articles and content on the site, completely disabling it and making it inaccessible to the public.
They also left a bold message on the hacked site: “The Sahara is Moroccan and will remain so. Neither Algeria nor the world can take it from us. Don’t waste your time; we’re here to remind you of that.”
This isn’t the first time Moroccan hackers have targeted Polisario. In 2012, they breached the official website of the Polisario’s embassy in Algeria.
Last month, the Moroccan cyber unit, known as *MKD*, hacked several Algerian government sites, including the tax department and the Algerian stock exchange.
In 2023, Moroccan hackers infiltrated a Polisario-affiliated TV channel, hijacking its live broadcast to show footage from Morocco’s Laayoune Regional Channel, complete with a map of the full Moroccan territory.
The hack lasted about 50 minutes, sparking outrage among Polisario supporters, especially as it coincided with the group’s “National Media Day” celebrations.
The TV channel is a key tool for spreading separatist propaganda in the camps and promoting hostility toward Morocco.
In 2022, Moroccan hackers targeted several Algerian government websites in response to ongoing digital attacks against Moroccan institutions.
Among the sites breached was one belonging to the Algerian Ministry of National Education, which was temporarily taken offline.
