Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi reiterated the GCC’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and its autonomy proposal during a visit to Rabat on Thursday. He also lauded the recent United Nations Security Council resolution on the issue.
At a joint press conference with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Al-Budaiwi announced that GCC foreign ministers have invited Bourita to a ministerial-level Gulf-Morocco strategic dialogue in Riyadh. Al-Budaiwi described the planned meeting as a “strategic dialogue covering various sectors of mutual interest.”
The Secretary-General congratulated Morocco on being selected to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, emphasizing the GCC’s readiness to provide full support to Rabat in organizing the global event.

Al-Budaiwi’s visit, which includes discussions with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, underscores the “strength and depth of the strategic partnership between Rabat and GCC nations,” he said.
Foreign Minister Bourita expressed appreciation for the GCC’s unwavering support for Morocco’s position on the Sahara, highlighting the robust ties between the two parties. “Our relationship remains strong, and we are exploring ways to further enhance it by fostering collaboration among joint teams and creating opportunities for youth, entrepreneurs, and businesses,” Bourita said.

Bourita noted the alignment between Morocco and GCC nations on international and regional issues, particularly in the Middle East. He reaffirmed their shared commitment to the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish a state, while also supporting stability in Arab nations facing recent challenges.
Reflecting on the 2016 Morocco-GCC summit, Bourita emphasized that Morocco views its security and stability as intertwined with that of the GCC countries.
