Moroccan feature film “Triple A” ,directed by Jihane El Bahhar, was awarded at Brussels International Film Festival, held on December 03-07 in the Senegalese capital, with Morocco as a guest of honor.

The film, telling the love stories of three marginalized protagonists whose destinies intertwine in unexpected ways, won Best Screenplay and Best Actor awards for actor Aziz Dadas’ performance.

In addition to “Triple A” , screened at the opening ceremony, two other works represented Morocco at the festival’s international competition, Rachida Saadi’s “Amira” in the short film category, and Aziz Khouadir’s documentary “Cubarouis” (Morocco-Cuba).

Shot during quarantine, the award-winning short tells the story of couple Amira and Karam, who lead a very peaceful yet monotone life with their daughter Sonia, as Amira wants to work to help her husband buy an apartment. Karam is about to sign the sales contract when he discovers that his wife is hiding money. With the help of her boyfriend, he decides to catch her in the act of adultery.

According to organizers, the festival lived up to its promise, offering a variety of films over 5 days through an eclectic selection that portrays the precision and aspiration of African and Belgian filmmakers worldwide.

With its sights set on a new horizon, the event marks a memorable milestone in its history. “Renowned for its artistic buzz, Dakar offered an ideal setting to celebrate this 9th edition and promote Pan-African cinema in Belgium and elsewhere”, the organizers underlined.

The Festival featured three competitions, one international, one dedicated to young talents and a third focusing on documentaries, in addition to meetings and forums to explore current issues in the film industry.
