A woman who operates in the famed Jemaa el-Fnaa square in Marrakech was arrested Tuesday for allegedly scamming a foreign tourist.
The incident began when the woman demanded 450 dirhams (around $45 USD) to apply henna to the tourist’s hand. The tourist suspected she was being overcharged and filed a complaint with the fifth police district.
Following the complaint, the Marrakech Tourism Police unit detained the woman, suspecting her involvement in a scam. She was questioned under police custody and the Public Prosecutor’s office ordered her detention for further investigation.
