HCP announces upcoming disclosure of Morocco's population figures
Wednesday 9 October 2024 - 10:32
The High Commissioner for Planning, Ahmed Lahlimi, announced that Morocco’s population count is ready following the completion of the general census of the population and housing, conducted throughout September.

The official population figure will be disclosed based on data shared by Lahlimi during a recent press conference in Rabat, pending the establishment of the necessary legal framework.

Lahlimi linked the release of the population number to issuing a decree for this purpose and scheduling a government council meeting for discussion and approval. He emphasized that his office is prepared to provide the government with all relevant data regarding the census.

He further noted that the completed census will enable Morocco to establish a comprehensive and detailed database covering geographical, social, and economic dimensions.

According to Lahlimi, the High Commission for Planning will utilize a unified database over the next decade to develop key statistical indicators related to poverty, prices, and social disparities, as well as to describe the economic and social conditions of Moroccan households.
