Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, and the Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Samantha Power, agreed, during a meeting in Washington, on a new roadmap aimed at accelerating the structural partnership linking the two parties through a series of shared interests, visions and priorities.

An effort undertaken in the direction of increased support for the strategic commitments of the Kingdom as a link and haven of prosperity in Africa and beyond, it was indicated during this working meeting on the future of active cooperation between Morocco and USAID, held on Tuesday.

Recalling the exceptional nature of this 67-year old relationship between USAID and Morocco, the ambassador underlined the crucial role of USAID programs in the transfer of know-how and expertise, mainly in the areas of education, inclusive development and women’s empowerment.

The Moroccan diplomat put into perspective the structuring axes of public policies decided by the Kingdom to catalyze, support and deepen Morocco’s development momentum in various strategic sectors.

These strategies arise from a vision promoted at the highest level by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, placing the human dimension at the heart of all considerations, and as the target of any approach aimed at enhancing inclusive prosperity, nationally and in Africa, he stressed.

Highlighting this regional dimension, the ambassador noted that His Majesty the King’s initiative for the Atlantic reflects the eminently united and concerted character of all of the Kingdom’s diplomatic deployments in the region.

“Morocco promotes coherent regional integrations, effective models of cooperation and sincere solidarity towards its partners with the aim of creating a broader context of regional peace and security,” said Youssef Amrani.

Sharing this assessment and reiterating her full commitment to moving forward in cooperation with the Kingdom, Samantha Power said she was impressed and optimistic about the existing capabilities to foresee unparalleled levels of excellence in cooperation with Morocco.

The U.S. official, who recalled in this regard her successful visit to the Kingdom last May, underlined the importance of the climate issue in USAID programs in Morocco.

She commended the leadership shown by Morocco in this area, notably through significant progress towards achieving its objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

In supporting these efforts, USAID will work with Morocco to develop sustainable development strategies in the areas of renewable energy, water resources management and sustainable agriculture.

On the prospects for future collaboration between the two parties, the U.S. official noted the “promising” nature of this partnership, noting that USAID and Morocco will continue to work hand in hand to strengthen the resilience of production models, mainly in the agricultural sector and sustainable development.

Pointing out that this collaboration would not only benefit Morocco, but would also serve as a model for other countries facing similar challenges, Samantha Power stressed that interaction with the Kingdom has all the potential to become a model of successful cooperation.

The partnership with USAID is set to strengthen through the strengthening and promotion of human capital, the fight against climate change, the empowerment of women, and the development of sustainable agriculture. In addition to these strategic pillars, Morocco represents an important and choice partner for USAID at the regional level, particularly with regard to a series of cooperation priorities at the African level and in the region, she added.
