The Bissau-Guinean Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Communities, Carlos Pinto Pereira, reiterated on Tuesday in Laayoune his country’s constant position in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
Speaking at a press briefing held after talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, Pereira reaffirmed Guinea Bissau’s support for the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative, which he sees as the only credible and realistic solution to this regional dispute.
He also praised the efforts of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for achieving a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the Sahara dispute.

Recalling the opening by the Republic of Guinea-Bissau of a Consulate General in Dakhla in October 2020, Pereira also reaffirmed that his country’s support was in line with the dynamic of international recognition of the Kingdom of Morocco’s territorial integrity, providing tangible proof of the solidity of the strategic partnership linking the two brotherly countries at the highest level.
He also emphasized the role of Morocco’s southern provinces as an important African hub, and called for the experience of these provinces to become the basis for a development policy for the whole of Africa.
The two ministers took the opportunity to reiterate their unwavering commitment to the principles of international law and legality, and to respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States.

Pereira lauded the initiative of King Mohammed VI aimed at transforming the African Atlantic space into a geo-strategic hub for pragmatic cooperation and consultation.
During the meeting in Laayoune, Pereira emphasized the significance of the Royal Initiative for the Sahel. This initiative seeks to enhance regional integration by providing Sahel states with better access to the Atlantic Ocean through improved transport and communication networks, thus connecting them more effectively to their regional environment.
The ministers addressed a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest, noting with satisfaction the alignment of their perspectives on these matters. They underscored their mutual commitment to contributing to the peaceful resolution of conflicts across Africa.

Additionally, the ministers praised the ongoing efforts of Morocco, guided by the wise and enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI, in promoting development and regional integration on the continent.
In a joint communiqué released at the end of the bilateral meeting, the two ministers welcomed the excellence of the deep bonds of friendship and solidarity uniting the Moroccan and Bissau-Guinean peoples.
In this context, Bourita expressed Morocco’s willingness to support the Republic of Guinea-Bissau in the implementation of projects and programs within its national development plan, while emphasizing the important role played by the private sector in boosting trade and economic exchanges between the two countries.

Furthermore, both parties agreed to hold a Business Forum soon to strengthen Moroccan investments in sectors targeted by Guinea-Bissau.
Similarly, Bourita and Pereira emphasized the necessity of establishing a Morocco-Guinea-Bissau Business Council to enhance trade exchanges between the two countries and take advantage of the promising economic prospects linked to the presence of the Bissau-Guinean consulate in Dakhla, which is set to become a center of excellence in terms of regional economic integration.
