On Monday afternoon, the criminal chamber of first instance of the Fez Court of Appeal handed down its verdict against a migrant worker residing in Belgium, for calling a false bomb threat on a plane.
He had been provisionally detained in the local Bourkayez prison for his involvement in the hijacking and destruction of aircraft and various air navigation installations.
The chamber decided to convict the accused of the charges against him and punish him with three years’ imprisonment, after he had disrupted a flight and claimed there was a bomb. The verdict was handed down after hearing the plea of the defense and the representative of the public prosecutor, who requested the conviction in accordance with the articles of prosecution.
The public prosecutor had prosecuted the accused for disrupting an international flight by falsely reporting the presence of a bomb, and for knowingly making threats likely to compromise the safety of the aircraft in mid-flight.
It should be noted that the accused had contacted the services of the National Airports Office claiming that there was a bomb on board a plane he was due to take to Belgium, after having come into conflict with airport officials due to his late arrival.
