Congolese media reports circulated news about the alleged refusal of players and members of the Congo Brazzaville national team to travel to Agadir, to face the Moroccan team next Tuesday, for the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup African qualifiers, after they withdrew from the match against Niger, last Thursday, in the third round of the same qualifiers.
According to the same reports, players and members of the technical staff of the Congolese national team refuse to travel to Morocco today, in preparation for facing the Atlas Lions, due to several internal issues, including forcing the mission to bear the costs of preparation, as well as the Congolese Minister of Sports booking the tickets for the trip, while urging the mission to manage the return tickets through personal funds, in addition to some other internal disputes.
A source from the Royal Moroccan Football Association told Hesport that no decision or communication has been received from the Congolese Federation regarding the alleged withdrawal from next Tuesday’s match.
“The Moroccan side is preparing for the match normally. The Congolese team was given permission this morning for their plane to land in Morocco.”
“What we know is that the Congolese team’s travel arrangements are proceeding, and we have not been informed of any development regarding the fate of the match. The Congolese national team is going through a lot of internal issues, and what is being reported may be attempts by the players to put pressure to get their outstanding dues.”
According to the Congolese team’s itinerary, the Red Devils are scheduled to arrive in Agadir this evening, with a light training session to remove fatigue, and an official training session will take place tomorrow evening at the Adrar Stadium at the same time as the match.
The Moroccan national team leads its group in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup with six points, followed by Zambia, Niger and Tanzania with three points, while Congo is at the bottom of the standings with 0 points.
