A new study suggests that 96% of those vaccinated against COVID-19 in the Casablanca-Settat region showed signs that their bodies were fighting the virus effectively.
Conducted by a group of Moroccan scientists and published on April 3 by scientific journal Nature, the study explains that all the vaccines available to Moroccans and examined had the same degree of efficacy.
Among the vaccines, Pfizer’s stood out according to the study, which states it is creating a stronger immune response than the others.
The study also revealed that people already infected with COVID-19 or other health problems at the time of vaccination had a stronger immune response after the shot.
The antibody response in vaccinated elderly people and women was also stronger, points out the study.
The study, the first of its kind in the region, aimed at assessing post-vaccination seroprevalence and humoral response generated by the four main types of vaccine implemented by the Ministry of Health in Morocco, to create IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2.
The survey involved 10,669 participants who received various vaccines, namely two doses for BBIBP-CorV/Sinopharm vaccine, Covishield and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, and one dose for Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.
The study covered 16 provinces in the Casablanca-Settat region, from February to June 2022, where the scientists collected comprehensive demographic and comorbidity data included in the publication.
According to the most recent COVID-19 update bulletin published on April 5, a whopping 24,924,688 Moroccans have been administered a first vaccine dose, and 61,492 have gotten their 4th dose in the country.
