The Iklyle cultural center in Tetouan hosted, this weekend, a literary meeting dedicated to the presentation of the book “Suspended Cities” (stories of a passenger) by Yassin Adnan, in the presence of a skewer of writers, publishers, visual artists and literature and culture enthusiasts.
In his 376-page book, the author plunges the reader into a journey during which he shares with him part of his travel stories, during the period from November 22, 2001 to January 31, from Granada to Marrakech, via other Moroccan, Arab and global cities.
This book “is a travel book, a documentation of places and a trip between the capitals”, noted Adnan, adding that the work was born in Tetouan, through the Bab Al-Hikma publishing house, where the book was presented for the first time.
In a statement to the press, he explained that this work represents a continuity of writing around the place, referring to his collection of poems “Le cahier du passager”, which is intended to be a poetic journey.
For his part, the Vice-President of Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, Jamal Eddine Benhayoun, indicated that this book at a “fast and elegant pace” transports the reader from one place to another, from one city to another, from a perpetual movement difficult for the reader to anticipate, narrated without exaggeration or frills.
In a reading around the book, Benhayoun stressed that the language used in the extracts of the story remains close to the heart and direct in most occasions, noting that the story is built to the rhythm of the author’s different journeys and wanderings according to a temporality that began in 2002 and ended in 2022.
For his part, Souad Meskine, professor at the Ecole normale supérieure (ENS), under Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, noted that “most of the authors who have written a travel story have published their works on literary sites or social networks, but Yassin Adnan did not leave his stories on virtual networks and chose to make it a book, preserving the characteristics of the travel story, while remaining open to the particularities of writing specific to digital means”.
