Government spokesperson Mostapha Baitas said the government received 31,41,662 applications for its housing support program in a show of interest by Moroccans as the executive seeks to reinvigorate its approach to home ownership assistance and help households’ purchasing power through direct financial aid to the buyer.
81 percent of the applications are submitted by citizens residing in Morocco, and 19 percent by Moroccans living abroad. Women submitted 37 percent of the total applications, and 63 percent were submitted by men, noting that the average age of these people is 40 years.
“The goal of housing support is to target young people and those about to get married, as the government has targeted, within the framework of its interventions, measures that are important to the Moroccan family, and the numbers confirm that the support is important to this segment,” he said.
Of the applications registered, 76 percent support purchasing housing worth less than 300 thousand dirhams, and 24 percent are directed to purchasing accommodation whose value ranges between 300 thousand dirhams and 700 thousand dirhams.
Baitas said the government noted discrepancies at the regional level regarding the requests for support submitted, stressing that an evaluation will be made later to determine which regions the demand is most concentrated in.

On the issue of inflation, Baitas spoke about measures taken by the government to confront the rise in prices.
“The issue of inflation is one of the issues that the government has interacted with, and there are a number of measures that it has taken on several occasions, including 10 billion dirhams to support agricultural inputs, especially seeds, fertilizers, and other materials used in agricultural production that significantly affect the prices of vegetables and fruits.”
The government official said the measures include “the support allocated to transportation professionals that reached the 17th batch at a value of seven billion dirhams” and the measures that concern the clearing fund, social support, and sectoral dialogues, all of which are “measures aimed at maintaining prices at reasonable levels.”
