Morocco’s consumer prices rose 1% in September from the previous month, driven by higher food costs, while annual inflation returned to positive territory, according to figures attributed to the High Commission for Planning (HCP) on Thursday.
Food prices increased 1.6% month on month, led by a 4.3% rise in both meat and vegetable prices. Milk, cheese and eggs became 1.6% more expensive, while fuel prices rose 2%.
The September increase followed a 0.8% rise in overall consumer prices in August, when food prices climbed 0.9%, according to HCP data.
Annual inflation reached 0.5% in September, reversing a 0.3% decline in August. Despite the latest monthly increase, food prices remained 2.5% below their September 2025 levels.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile prices and regulated tariffs, stood at 0.6% year on year.
Price increases varied considerably across Morocco. Laayoune recorded the sharpest monthly rise at 2.8%, followed by Beni Mellal at 2.4% and Guelmim at 1.6%.
