After setting a personal best time in the Aramco Half Marathon a year ago, Moroccan runner Zouhair Talbi won first place in the American Chevron Houston Marathon last Sunday, recording a time of 2:06:39.
“I’m very happy today,” Talbi told the Houston Chronicle. “I trained really hard and I told my wife that I think I can break the course record.”

“I just tried not to get too excited, and not go too fast at first. At 40 kilometers I was with the group, and there I took my chance to win the race. I am very proud to be the first Moroccan (champion),” he told local press.
Zouhair Talbi said that winning the Chevron Houston Marathon was tantamount to turning the setbacks he experienced at the New York Marathon into a successful comeback.
Talbi posted on his Facebook account that from the moment he withdrew from the New York Marathon until now, he learned that he had to rely on a comprehensive support system to continue working hard in order to achieve victory, culminating in his win in the Houston Marathon.

The Moroccan champion was keen to thank his wife, coach, teammates and friends for their steadfast and unlimited support, and dedicated his victory to all those who supported him and those who look up to him.
