Moroccan athlete Imad Bouchajda won the gold medal in the 800m at the World Junior Athletics Championships, held from August 5 to 9 in Eugene, United States.
Bouchajda clocked 1:44.64, finishing ahead of Australia’s Daniel Williams, who recorded 1:45.36.
Third place went to Spain’s Alejandro Rios in 1:46.25, a personal best.
The Moroccan athlete is the reigning African runner-up and holds the national U20 record. He is the fourth Moroccan athlete to win a gold medal at the World U20 Championships, following Adil Kaouch (1500m), crowned in Annecy, France, in 1998; Yassine Bensghir (1500m), who won the title in Kingston, Jamaica, in 2002; and Abdalaati Iguider (1500m), crowned in Grosseto, Italy, in 2004.
