Four Moroccan cities have been featured in Tripadvisor’s annual rankings, which select the world’s top tourist destinations according to visitor expectations, taking into account cultural, spiritual, historical or natural landmarks.
Marrakech is one of the top destinations for 2024, ranked eighth out of the 25 most coveted cities, ahead of Istanbul (12th), Barcelona (14th), Madrid (20th) and New York (25th).
According to the platform, Marrakech is “a magical place, brimming with markets, gardens, palaces and mosques.”
The Ocre City gives visitors the chance to “explore the intimate courtyards and winding alleys of the historic medina, find inner peace at the serene Jardin Majorelle, and appreciate the beauty of one of the city’s historic mosques,” says the travel website
Dubai took first place for the third year running, ahead of Bali (Indonesia) and London (England).
Fez is ranked fourth among the best cultural destinations in 2024, behind Havana (Cuba), Cuzco (Peru) and Agra (India).
“This fortified city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will transport you back to medieval times. Visit the old labyrinthine quarters of the Fès medina and its four imposing gates, with their distinctive Moroccan tiles”, says Tripadvisor.
For nature destinations in Morocco, the top spot was given to Merzouga, ranked 14th out of 25 sites worldwide, thanks to its sunsets and dunes.
This small village “gives a taste of desert life, and treks to nearby villages will reward you with African revelry, including music and dance”, writes the platform.
Finally, Casablanca is the 23rd of the 25 trendy cities worldwide for 2024.
In the space of a century and a half, this city has grown from a few thousand inhabitants to a metropolis of over four million, becoming a benchmark industrial and commercial center. Tripadvisor recommends exploring the medina and the Old Town, in the footsteps of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.
Other must-sees include the Hassan II mosque, the largest in Morocco, as well as piano bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
Casablanca is also known for its neighborhoods, which trace its social and architectural evolution through the centuries and decades, from downtown to Aïn Sebaâ, via Les Habbous.
As for its maritime coastline, it offers a breath of fresh air between the historic port, the new Marina and the emblematic Aïn Diab.
