Spanish law enforcement authorities have widened their search for the Tunisian suspect involved in the attack on former Vox politician Alejo Vidal-Quadras.

The gunman, identified as Mehrez Ayari, 37, is now being sought in Libya, Tunisia, and Morocco, as reported by sources close to the investigation to Ok Diario.

The 78-year-old ex-politician was rushed to the hospital on November 9th after being shot in the face near Núñez de Balboa Street in Madrid.

The bullet caused the former Vox leader a wound with an entry and exit hole at the level of the jaw.

The assailant, who covered his face with a helmet, approached Vidal-Quadras on foot before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle with an accomplice.

The burnt remains of the motorcycle were later discovered in Fuenlabrada.

Police have been meticulously analyzing security footage capturing the movements of the suspect , who is believed to have left Spain before the arrest of three individuals on November 21st.

Among those detained is a Fuengirola 22-year-old resident of Mijas (Malaga) and a couple of similar age in Lanjarón (Granada).

The Fuengirola detainee is suspected to be linked to the motorcycle used in the attack, allegedly paid 500 euros to register the vehicle in his name.

Despite the arrests, the key details surrounding the motive, intellectual author, and material author of the crime remain unknown.

The judicial decision on 24th led to the unconditional imprisonment of the Lanjarón detainee on charges of attempted terrorist murder. The other two were released and will have to appear on the 1st and 15th of each month in court and hand over their passports, since the magistrate has prohibited them from leaving the national territory.

As the search for Mehrez Ayari intensifies, investigators are not ruling out the possibility that the suspect may be hiding in Spain, particularly in a safehouse.

However, the primary focus of the manhunt spans across Libya, Tunisia, and Morocco, where authorities are actively coordinating efforts to locate and apprehend the wanted individual.
