The Boeing Mesa factory in Arizona has officially begun production on 24 Apache helicopters to strengthen Morocco’s military arsenal.
“By acquiring the Apache, Morocco will receive the world’s most advanced, proven attack helicopter that will enhance their defense forces for years to come,” said Christina Upah, vice president of Attack Helicopter Programs and senior Boeing Mesa site executive, according to Boeing News Now.
Back in June 2020, Boeing first announced that Morocco became the 17th country to acquire the Boeing AH-64 Apache through a contract for 24 of the helicopters.
Upah said, “Boeing’s partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco spans decades, and I am proud the Apache is now part of this legacy.”
The manufacturer will produce the helicopter models under a contract with the U.S. Army through the U.S. government’s Foreign Military Sales program. Deliveries are scheduled for 2024, unveiled by the same source.
Jeff Shockey, vice president of global Sales and Marketing, at Boeing Defense, Space & Security, and Government Services previously said “This is another step forward in our long partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco. Worldwide demand for the Apache is growing and we are proud to provide this best-in-class capability to Morocco.”
The most recent version of the attack helicopter is the AH-64E Apache. It has the newest weapon, communication, navigation, and sensor technologies, all built into an open systems architecture.
It has an upgraded Modernized Target Acquisition Designation System with night vision navigation capabilities and day, night, and all-weather target information. The Fire Control Radar has been modified to function in a maritime environment in addition to categorizing air and ground targets.
“Far-Maroc”, a facebook page sharing military updates said, “The Boeing MESA factory in Arizona began manufacturing the first of 24 helicopters designated for the Royal Air Force, the AH64E Apache, the most powerful combat helicopter that has proven its combat effectiveness in the field and is equipped with the latest military technologies.”
The same post explained that Morocco had requested the purchase of 24 Apache attack helicopters, with the ability to increase the number to 36, and is in parallel working on preparing the Khouribga military base to welcome the helicopters, starting at the end of next year and the beginning of 2025.
